Almost everyone has accidentally thrown a wool sweater in the machine at the wrong temperature. It doesn’t need to be the end of the sweater. That’s why we’ve listed some of our best tips and trick on how to unshrink a shrunken garment.
Let the sweater soak in baby shampoo and cold water for 12–24 hours. Rinse thoroughly and leave to flat dry. Stretch the fibers evenly in all directions. Keep stretching during the drying time.
Steam it!
A steamer will dramatically help to reshape a shrunken wool sweater. Put the sweater on a sturdy hanger and work through the whole garment while evenly stretching in all directions.
You made it! Hopefully your sweater will be saved and can be used for many years to come!
